Welcome to the Website of ACBC UK
We are an association of independent churches holding communion together, united by our full subscription to the biblical truths set forth in the Second London Baptist Confession of Faith (2LBCF).
In pursuing unity that is grounded in a Confession of Faith, we desire to uphold the whole counsel of God. Confessions of Faith are not irrelevant historical artefacts, but comprehensive statements of biblical doctrine that help us pursue God’s plan for His church on numerous fronts such as missions and church planting, pastoral training, and cultural engagement.
What Does Association Accomplish?
Our churches are united by enduring truths which are relevant to the challenges and opportunities of the contemporary world. In associating together as churches, we do not pursue our work in isolation, but shoulder-to-shoulder with one another, testifying to the glorious unity Christ has gifted us in the Gospel.
As our Confession of Faith states, we primarily associate together for greater “peace, increase of love, and mutual edification” (2LBCF 26:14) between our churches. This honours our Lord Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church, as we display our common unity and love.
The Historical Basis for Baptist Associations
Baptist Associations have a rich history in the British Isles. In the 17th century, the earliest particular Baptist churches formed regional associations as a means of expressing their communion with one another. In 1656, the Midlands Association drafted a formal agreement that emphasized this unity. In it they stated:
Read Our Constitution
Churches of the same faith and gospel order, as they all have drunk of the one and same Spirit, hold to the one and same head, and have one Lord, one faith, and one baptism, may and ought to have and enjoy voluntary fellowship and friendly association together, as opportunity may arise. Therefore, in the discharge of those relative duties that may tend to the mutual benefit and edification of all of Christ’s churches (1 Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 4:5; John 17:20-26), confessional Reformed Baptist churches in the United Kingdom have come together to form a national association of churches.
